Alright.. so I'm still a newbie when it comes to Indie stuff b/c I never had a source for it. However, I'm quickly becoming a fan of the unknowns. It's like a mad treasure hunt to find the next sweet undiscovered talent.
I recently picked up Jack Johnson's latest "In Between Dreams" and love it. Simple, lazy day, mellow acoustic music. Makes me think of sitting on a beach or under a tree in a park kicking back with my guitar. How I've never heard about this guy before I'll never know. He's got like 4-5 CD's out and his myspace page has over a million hits. How do guys like this fly under the radar?

Dude...
Jack Johnson is anything but indie... He's all over TV shows all the dang time. Every other teenager with a guitar comes into new city trying to sound exactly like him... he's on a major label and has sold millions and millions of CDs.
Indie music = me. I've sold 400 CDs. Major label crammed down my throat at every possible opportunity music = Jack Johnson - Sold several million CDs.

told you I'm out fo the loop.. I guess when I think Indie I think of anything that isn't pop or played all over the radio 24/7 i.e. Coldplay, Nickelback, Kelly Clarkson, etc. That stuff is so tired. I don't watch much TV so I don't know what he's been on. Thanks for clearing that up though. In any event, I like his stuff.
So throw out some good Indie stuff Greg. I've checked out Hem and wasn't too excited about them. I liked some of Imogen Heap's stuff, but it would get old to me after 10 minutes. It reminded of Moby or Depeche Mode.

Nah... a little girl indeed. Craig, you're a hard nut to crack because you seem to like such a big variety... I'm not sure what kind of stuff you would go for. Some truly indie stuff I dig:
Andy Gullahorn Eric Peters Randall Goodgame Sufjan Stevens Pedro the Lion Richard Julian Over the Rhine Bill Mallonee

Over the Rhine is a pretty good example of what I was looking for b/c I love their stuff. I know they've been around forever and sold lots of CD's yet they still remain on their own small indie label. I've been wondering about Sufjan Stevens for awhile. I'm intrigued by the whole 50 States Project.
Some of the my youth group kids told me they hear Jack Johnson stuff on their WB shows. That raises a huge quandry for me. Do I suffer through countless hours of WB programming just to find some sweet music? Ugh... I'm on forums like this to try to avoid that very thing, so I'll definitely check out some of the guys mentioned above. Thanks for the help.

That's why I watch Gilmore Girls religiously, for the music. Yeah, that's it, for the music.

So apparently the italics tags don't work on the board. Guess I have to use that fancy "quote" tool...

I love Indie stuff, usually. Most indie artists I know have a good following, though. Their mostly Lutheran, too, of course. Yet, definitely not above hanging out and chatting with their fans Jamie it's bbcode, so you can't use HTML brackets. . .the < and the >. You have to use the [ and ]. The "i"s would be in those, just like HTML. Stein Auf! Bridget
