I joined the crowds, though, and got an MP3 player! It's one of those Chinese copies and I'm still learning about it, but it seems to rock so far! I'm just letting it play through folders right now because I don't think the random works too well unless it knows the songs on there.
I don't know what an ipod is like, but this is basically just a USB mass storage device that is also an MP3 player/MP4 player/FM radio/voice recorder.
Definitely much CHEAPER than an ipod!
Yeah, still getting music onto it. . .2 gigs is a lot to fill (I easily have probably about 10 gigs of music, but choosing what I want on it. . .not so easy. . .)

there are several knockoffs of ipods that are just as great as an ipod. i got my wife an ipod last year and looking back, i'm not sure it is any cooler than the other options. it says 'apple' on it. that makes it more expensive. but probably also more reliable. apple is good stuff.

eh, i dunno that I'd say the apple stuff is more reliable just because it says apple.
I got one (ended up winning another one - don't know, a bid was retracted, I guess) and I like it better than the first - but it's the same firmware, same concept, etc. Mostly, I just like it because it has the standard size headphone jack rather than the cell phone size headphone jack like the first one I won. . .just 'cause I do NOT like earbuds because they don't fit in my ears and make them hurt. I can use standard headphones with this one. I think that's about it. I know the company has a one year warranty, too. . .
