Hey gang...
For most of you, this will probably be kind of a let down because it's not really related to my "music career" and I use quotes because my music career is definitely something that should be put into quotations, especially if quotations means "not-really-much-of-a-music-career".
But, it is something that is huge to me...
I'm changing jobs. I resigned today from the church I've been at for the past 4 years and 3 months... i've served here at West Towne as the worship pastor and it's been a great time. I will miss it very, very much. More than anything else, I am going to miss all of the great friends I have made here... some of you who will be reading this are among that group. Please know that you are the main thing that makes me want to stay.
I have taken a new job at a different church... after 12 years of doing worship services multiple times every single week with pretty much no break, I've decided to take some time off stage... i'm excited about that. I'll be working at Powell Church here in Knoxville... it's up off emory road and it's about a mile from my house which is awesome. My title is Innovative Creative Arts Minister but really, that's a fancy sounding thing that doesn't really describe what I'll really be up to. Primarily, my job will be to oversee and develop all things technical... video, audio, print, web, lighting, sound, podcasts, etc... anything in those areas, I'll be working with. I'll also help with creative service planning and will be responsible for everythign that goes on the screens during worship. I'll also get to lead worship sometimes, but only as often as I want to. Sometimes, they might let me just play in the band which will be a welcome change. I'm excited about it... the job description they have drawn up for me is incredible... I couldn't have written a better one if I was just writing down dreams for the perfect job for me.
So anyway, that's the news. Sorry it's not that I have a record deal or that Bono is going to produce my new CD or that Rod Stewart decided to do an album of big band arrangements of my songs or that I've become a scientologist or something.
Seriously though, pray for me in this time of change... it's exciting but it's also really sad... I hate saying goodbye.
We now return to our usual boring old message board.
