I heard one time that you can put a hard drive in a freezer for a while and then take it out and you have just enough time to boot it up and get your data off before it's junk.
Of course, when I tried it, it didn't work.
I would suggest finding a local independent computer shop. Those guys often will do things for the love of it (and money, of course, but maybe less). As opposed to Petey, who's just killing time till he can earn enough money to buy a Grand Prix and finally move out of his parents' basement.
