GREETINGS
So I’ve been at this whole music thing for about 9 months now and this is the first time I’ve ever sent a bulk mail to everyone on my mailing list. Remember when you signed up how I told you I wouldn’t send you a bunch of mail and bug you all the time? Well, I wasn’t kidding!
I wish I could say that I haven’t written out of a deep desire to keep your inbox clutter-free, but alas… I really haven’t written because I’ve just been lazy and unorganized. Such a typical musician-type… Anyway, there’s lots going on with me and my music and I’ll try to catch you up on all that right now.
BLUEGRASS CD NOW AVAILABLE
?
I'm proud to make available to you a new CD called "The Bluegrass Service". Many of you have already picked one of these up from me in person or at church, but if you haven't heard about it, let me just tell you, it is chock full of banjoey sweetness. Banjoey is not a word, yes I'm aware of that, thanks.
I've been describing the CD this way: Old hymns, new standards, and a few original songs come together with heaping loads of banjos, mandolins, fiddles, and dobros. The result is bluegrassy goodness! (again, I realize that bluegrassy isn't a word either).
You can head over to www.gregadkinsmusic.com/music and listen to a few sound clips and order one if you like. They are $12.00 which includes shipping. I have one new original song on this disc... it's called "Uncle Joe's Bunions" and some have said that it is "mildly amusing" and "deeply profound". I agree... because often the deeply profound can be mildly amusing.
UPCOMING SHOWS
I'm finding that summer time is a hard time to schedule concerts... seems like people just have a lot going on, but I'll still be out on the road a few times and I would love it if you would come out and see me. Or, if you are the type of person who could put a concert on, I would love to talk with you... just reply to this email. I am flexible and compared to a lot of acts, VERY affordable (often I'll come play for an offering or small guarantee to cover expenses).
Anyway, here are my current dates:
June 11th - Nashville, TN - The Bluebird Cafe
* showtime is 6:30 and it's free, BUT, I'm only playing 3 songs as part of a writers round. Any Nashville friends who want to come hang out, please do! I'd love to have the support as I play this historic venue for the first time.
June 16th - Kingston, TN - Common Ground Coffeehouse
* Showtime is not for sure yet, but will probably be between 7:00 and 8:00. Show is free!
June 23rd - Conyers, GA - Rockdale Community Church
* showtime is 8:00 and I believe it is free, but there might be a small cover... not sure yet.
June 24th - Duluth, GA - Higher Grounds Coffeehouse
July 8th - Kingston, TN - Kingston Methodist Church - Songwriters round by the Lake
* free!
July 9th - Gatlinburg, TN - Gatlinburg First United Methodist Church
* Grab some funnel cake or salt water taffy and come on over to the heart of Gatlinburg. This will be a fun one.
That's it for now... I'm hoping to book dates in Chattanooga, TN, Asheville, NC, and Berea, KY in the coming months. Please, Please, Please, if you have enjoyed my music and would be at all interested in having me in for a show... just ask. We might be able to make something happen a whole lot easier than you think!
RECENT PRESS / PUBLICITY
My first CD "Lower than the Angels" is still doing really well, for a no-name indie release with absolutely no support of any kind. I've sold just over 500 copies of the record to date which isn't bad considering I'm doing this part time. Here are a few exciting things:
1. "Be the Body" on UCB Radio charts
UCB Radio is a European Christian music station. It's available on the airwaves in England, and also on Cable radio all over Europe. I think they're on the internet too. Anyway, my song "Be the Body" has been on their top 20 charts for 3 weeks now. It entered the charts at #19, rose to #10 in it's second week, and dropped to #16 in week 3. You can contribute to their charts by voting for my song here: www.ucb.co.uk/top20 Don't feel obligated but if you have a second, I'd appreciate it.
2. "Be the Body" on Knoxville radio
Knoxville's Christian station Love 89 has also been playing "Be the Body". It's been featured almost weekly on their show "The Detour" (thanks Kris!) and also being played some in their regular rotation... It's been weird to start running into people around town who have said they heard me on the radio.
3. Review in Christian Musician magazine
Shawn McLaughlin wrote a glowing review of "Lower than the Angels" in Christian Musician magazine. It's the issue with Third Day on the cover and my record was reviewed right beside Derek Webb's new record so that was an honor. You can read the review on my press page here: www.gregadkinsmusic.com/press/

Many of you know that I used to keep a blog at www.emergingminister.com. While that site is still up, I no longer update it... but I do write regularly on my website at www.gregadkinsmusic.com. Go to the site and click on "Community" which is my message board... I write regularly there and would love to have you involved too... the best thing about it is that it's interactive and set up to be conversational. Join in!
Thank you all so much for your support of my music in the past year... to those of you who have come to a show, bought a CD, sent on a kind word of encouragement, shared my music with others, or anything else nice... I offer you my humble thank you. It has been amazing to see what God has done with my music over this past year... I've just tried to be faithful to the calling I feel on my life to share the songs I have been given. Thanks for being a part of that.
