Waterdeep has a new CD coming out, and they have two new songs ( Good Good End and Diana) on their myspace page. www.myspace.com/waterdeepmusic From their e-mail update: I am a big Waterdeep fan and am really excited about the new CD after all this time.

Hey Sharon (again if this is indeed the AP release show Sharon), This is pretty interesting news... honestly, on my very first listen a few weeks ago I wasn't terribly excited... on second listen, they sound a lot better. Waterdeep's always been one of those bands (like Sixpence) for me - they're both great bands, but I don't always connect with their art (even if I can totally respect it). I do have to say I like Don's production work... especially the "Hear the Voice" CDs... those are magnificent. And for the record, Sink or Swim is easily a top 25 record for me as well I'm sure you've heard them, but if you haven't, the Voice CDs are wonderful (whatever you think of the Bible "translation"), featuring AP, Derek Webb, Andy O, Jill Phillips, Don & Lori, etc. etc. [see especially "Perfectly Fitted" on Vol. 2 ... still blows me away every time I hear it]

Yes, I'm the same Sharon. You know I have "The Voice" CDs, but I haven't listened to them very much. I think I got them at the same time I got some other CDs, and they sort of got lost in the shuffle. I will have to get them out and listen to them again.

I need to pull those CDs out again too... I had a similar problem, but Derek's song ("Let the Name..." ) and "Perfectly fitted" caught my attention. By the way... www.waterdeep.com/store to download the album for $10, w/ a $4 upgrade when physical CDs are printed! PS Any Kendall Payne fans? She posted some great new clips on her myspace for her Paper Skin album coming out soon... www.myspace.com/kendallpayne

I'm listening to the new Waterdeep right now, and so far, it is great. Kind of quirky and bizarre, but easily my favorite thing they've done in awhile. I haven't liked the last few records they've done and none of them have really been a favorite since "Everyone's Beautiful".
Kendall payne is great. I went to a church conference one time at her church and got to talk to her a fair amount. She is a wonderful baker and brought amazing bread every night. She wasn't there to sing or play or anything... just to hang out and be a part of things. I gained a lot of respect for her as a person which made me like her music even more. I'll check out that link.

Hmm... the sound clips sound pretty good... I may have to add it to my "after-I-preorder-"The Trumpet Child"" list Did you ever listen to any of Don's solo work? I'd be interested to hear (both of your) opinions on his two solo discs. I'm still not quite sure what to make of them, honestly

I absolutely LOVE "You were at the time for Love". That was actually the first thing from Don or Lori that I ever heard, so it's always been a favorite. His more recent disc... meh. I don't know, it just never really connected with me much at all. A couple of decent songs but overall, pretty mediocre.
If you had to check one out, I'd say get "You were at the time for Love". Lots of really great songs on there.

Gosh, you people get me EVERY time. I didn't like the sound clips... didn't really care for the lyrics on a read-through... but when it came upon eMusic I grabbed it. and I LOVE it. Something about the music and lyrics combined make for a great musical experience... and it doesn't help that "Good, Good End" has stolen my heart like few others of their songs (I find myself singing this one at random during the day...) It's definitely bizarre in places... but after listening to Andrew Bird or Sufjan, or even Jeremy Casella, this stuff sounds just right. Leave it to my favorite artists to reinvent themselves enough to broaden even MY horizons (OtR, JC and now Josh ritter doing the "midnight orchestra" thing ) It also feels like one of the most lyrically straightforward things they've written as well... I know Don's two solo records were (What you don't know/ whole nother deal), but most of the waterdeep stuff (at least the earlier work [Live at New earth, To chase away the birds]) was verbose in places. Made me pull out Sink or Swim again, and I might hunt down my Everyone's Beautiful as well. Great stuff. Greg board - 8 , Sean - 0 Sean
