Anyone know anything about the new Bob Dylan record? I saw it up for presale on iTunes, but I haven't had much exposure. I got into his stuff through some really excellent covers (notably of the times they are a changin' [Derek Webb & Lady in the Water soundtrack] and Every Grain of Sand [DW]), so I picked up his two-cd essentials CD and liked it pretty good (the little I've listened to it - maybe i'll pull it back out). However I don't have a clue about his newer stuff. Just curious... I found I really liked old man Johnny Cash better than his big career stuff (not like American IV wasn't big career), and I was wondering if Bob Dylan was the same.

Hey man...
I'm a HUGE Dylan fan. I own every record he has ever put out.
I'll say this... As a big fan, I appreciate his new records... and his last one (love and theft) was actually really great. That said, I think his best work is behind him... If you want my essential Dylan records, they are:
Bootleg Series vol 1-3 Blood on the Tracks Bringin' it all Back Home Another Side of Bob Dylan Highway 61 Revisited Blonde on Blonde Oh Mercy Biograph (5 disc career retrospective) Slow Train Comin / Saved / Shot of Love (his three "Christian" albums).
Others are good too... those are my faves.

I've got The Essential Bob Dylan 2 CD package and love it. It's a greatest hits type thing but he has so many good songs to cram onto 2 CD's. Great for someone just looking for a Dylan fix.

So, what's everyone's favorite Bob Dylan song?
Mine is "I Believe in You," or at least I really like the cover Greg did on West Towne Blugrass Service.
Just my 2 cents.

The Times They are a Changin' Pressing On Like a Rolling Stone Tombstone Blues To Ramona Song for Woody If You See her, Say Hello You're gonna make me Lonesome when you Go Every Grain of Sand Ring Them Bells

So this is kinda crazy... but iTunes did a "complete collection" today -- 773 tracks for $199.99 . Man, I wish I had that kind of money to spend on music... yowza.
sch
PS plus it's got like 42 unreleased rarities ... wow.
