There's nothing wrong with a s-p-o-o-n, but this board doesn't tend to detect when the censored words are part of another word, so, um, yeah, the word without the s is what is being cencored. . .and it's keeping the S.
I finished reading God's Politics in less than a week and I thought I would end up taking at least two weeks to read it. Yep, it's that good.
I'll have to look for Hurt.
I love Frogs Without Legs Can't Hear. If you want to get people into ministry and outreach, that book is a must. It's something that everybody really needs to understand.

On McLaren.. I read "A new kind of christian" and thought it had some interesting ideas, but I just didn't enjoy the fictional, narrative type style of the book. Creative, but too distracting to me for that kind of material. I didn't bother trying to read the other 2 in that series.
If McLaren is rubbing you raw, or for Bridget...who enjoyed God's politics, check out Tony Campolo's "Speaking My Mind." Read that last summer and it flipped me out man. It took me a whole week to read the chapter on Time. He tackles hot topic stuff like homosexuality, women's roles in church, war, capital punishment, etc. I was engrossed in it, and though I didn't agree with all of it, it was still great food for thought.

Okay, I was just being a smarty pants when I gave my summer reading list but I just finished reading "The Dark Hills Divide" and it is a must read for those who love Narnia. I won't get into the details but it has many profound quotes.
So if any of you need a breather to let your brain rest from all the McLaren and Steinbeck, this one is a keeper.

I've started reading Purpose Driven Youth Ministry (again, as I didn't finish the last time I started reading it and went to read other stuff and never started again). Maybe I'll finish it this time, eventually - since I keep marking it up with red pen (for all different reasons - agreeing, disagreeing, etc.)
Oh, and Miriam, there's NOTHING wrong with light reading at times. I still go back to those books occasionally - Holes is great. Hey, sometimes I just like to sit and read Dr. Seuss because it's fun!

Eat This Book: Eugene Peterson. Just got it. Heard it was amazing. Gives advice on how to read scriptures with new disciplines like lectio divina, etc. Again, haven't read it but heard through a trusted source it was excellent.

More great reads from the simpleton of the group:
The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World
The Passporters Guide to Walt Disney World
Yup, going on vacation, (NOT with Mr. Growingyoung, thank you very much, he can go on his own) and planning is about as much fun as going.

You want some simpleton reading? I can provide you with some of that.
Interstellar Pig Holes Summer of my German Soldier by Bette Greene The Cat Ate My Gymsuit by Paula Danziger Ramona Quimby, Age 8 Ramona, The Pest Ramona Forever Help! I'm Shrinking, A Choose Your Own Adventure Book Who Put That Hair in My Toothbrush by Jerry Spinelli
Now, I've not read any of these this summer. . .but they are all fun stuff! I can't remember all of the authors, though.

While looking for a book to read with our youth worship band I found Buck-Naked Faith: A Brutally Honest Look at Stunted Christianity (I forget the author). Has anyone read this?
