Could you do an entire album of songs like "Tattered Old Notebook" just for me at least? Though I like all the songs on the CD, I enjoy it the most because it's so different and upbeat. I agree with some people that it doesn't really fit with the other songs, but that just makes it the ugly duckling of sorts (in comparison to the other songs), not necessarily a bad song.

Yo.. I agree man. Maybe the lyrics aren't life altering, but I bet they strike a nerve in all of us. Same goes for Romantic Comedy. They aren't my favorite on the album... well... maybe they are musically, but that's because I think I prefer stuff a bit edgier (is that a word??). It's good that they are on the album or you may have been tagged as a limited artist who only plays slow ballads about the dramas of life for the coffeehouse crowd. I love the organ in that song. I love the xylophone sounding thing in the background during the "I think it might be a lie" part. Still not my fav', but very enjoyable to listen too still.
My least favorite song is probably "on the edge." For some reason it just didn't grab me and I kind of forget about it when I think about your album. Although for some reason it makes me think of the scene in Patch Adams when he's threatening God with jumping off the edge. Whatever... Peace.

thanks for all your comments guys... I relaly appreciate it. Zac... I probably won't do a whole album of songs with that feel, but I definitely have a love for that rootsy rock sound. I listen to a lot of bands with that sound. If you like that song, you should check out the record "Thus Always to Tyrants" by Scott Miller and the Commonwealth... I was going for the sound of that record with that song.
Craig, please don't jump. It's not worth it. The xylophone thingy is an actual xylophone, and I'm glad you liked the organ on that one... we used this old 1980s yamaha keyboard with this hilarious cheesy organ sound on it... it came out sounding really cool. And yeah, you're right... I wanted to avoid being pegged as a coffeehouse type ballad singer... didn't want to be the male version of Jewel.

I met Jewel once when I worked in radio... she came up to the studio and did a song. She was a really sweet girl... that was back after her first album had come out. I really liked that one and I haven't liked another one since... too much production. Her concert she did that night in town was really great... just her and a guitar.

Hey Greg, Well, the short introduction is ... my name's Sean. You probably don't remember, but I'm the guy who emailed you from S. Asia back in June about Emerging Minister. I'm just a guy from LA (no, not the city) and I really enjoy good indie music... found your stuff off of Andy O's blog. Hope that helps =) (unless that was a joke... ) sch PS So I totally missed the other page of stuff before I wrote this... oh well, glad some other folks liked TON too =)

Hey Sean,
Actually, I do remember that... are you still in Asia or back here in the states? Where in Louisiana are you from? Anyway, welcome to the site man... I appreciate you chiming in and hanging around.
Got any good tunes to recommend?

Greg, that's cool about Jewel. (drat, and that rhymed. . .guess sometimes I just can't help myself and NO all my poems do NOT rhyme, in fact, the majority of them DON'T.)
Sean, Welcome to the little LA club. I'm just a girl from Lake Charles!

Bridget - Nice to meet ya! I'm actually from NW LA ... Shreveport or thereabouts. Are you and your family alright/recovering well from Rita? Greg - I'm back here in the states now, trying to finish school... made it back in July. But hey, if you're into that sort of thing, check out www.sastudents.com ... it's the site we put together for the group I went with. Fun stuff... man, God's doing some amazing things over there, and when the Truth gets out, it really gets out. Anyhow... good tunes... well, most of it's not new to you (or anyone else on the board for that matter, methinks), but I've really been digging some Over the Rhine recently. I just got a hold of Good Dog Bad Dog and Films for Radio... yeah, wow. Those two write soundtracks to the movies in my head. Or something like that, I dunno =) They make me want to create good art - make me want to write and film and do all those other fancy artsy things. Other than that, I've got Sandra McCracken's new hymns CD (also mentioned somewhere recently, can't remember if it was here or on CC.net's forum)... amazing stuff. Um... new DW single ("A New Law"), Justin McRoberts' "Grace Must Wound...", and just the standard Osenga/Casella/Peterson thing goin on =). Whoo, that was long... thanks for bein so open with your fans Greg... I dunno, it's cool to see what inspires you guys, b/c you guys inspire me (wow... sorry for the intense cheese factor on the previous statement). Okay, wasted enough time... gotta write purpose statement for grad school =-o. sean

Sean,
Yeah, we're doing well - our house just had some shingles missing and some mildew on the ceiling. My church is okay - but we can't worship in our normal building - it had to be "gutted out" and my friends say they think it was the worst hit church building in Lake Charles.
We were up your way when Rita hit, though. We went up to Texarkana, AR to stay. . .

Hey Greg...
I've had your cd for a couple weeks now and wanted to weigh in on the board here. My least favorite song is most definatly "on the edge"--for the simple reason that i don't like the chorus much. But, i love the feel of the intro and music on the verses--very Shawn Colvin 'sunny came home'
All in all it's a great album. Elizabeth and i are looking forward to meeting you in Wilmington next weekend.
