So, if you want to know about what my life is like, this is all you need to know.
Friday night, my wife and I decided to take our little boy Connor to his first movie in a theater. "March of the Penguins" was playing at the dollar theater and we figured he might like all the birds and stuff...
Anyway, as we were pulling up to the theater, I got out of the car and my cell phone rang. I answered it and it was Andrew Peterson. Now, Andrew and I are kind of friends... I mean, he came and sang on the record, we judged a songwriting contest together and talked for a few hours, I took him to lunch, we were at a New City retreat together, so we know each other... but we aren't like best buddies or anything, so I was kind of surprised to get a call from him. He had never called me before.
The reason he called was to tell me that he had gotten a copy of my record from Andy Osenga and that he had enjoyed it. Well, I'll be honest here... I really admire Andrew and I'm a real fan of his writing... I think he's one of the absolute best... so his kind words really meant a lot to me.
Anyway, I got off the phone and as we walked into the theater, my wife asked who it was. I told her it was Andrew Peterson... she said "what did he want"... I told her that he was calling to tell me he liked my record. And then she said...
"Yeah... well don't let it go to your head... your fly is down." And I looked and of course, it was wide open... in front of a lot of people.
I zipped it up, went into the theater, watched 15 minutes of the movie until my son started freaking completely out, walked out of the theater as everyone gave us dirty looks, drove home, tried to watch a movie, and fell asleep on the couch.
So yeah. I'm a real big-shot. With my fly down.
