I probably shouldn't be doing this but one of you asked for it privately and I'm a nice guy so what the heck. Here is a 2 minute sampler of how things are going on the album so far. Keep in mind that NOTHING is finished... the vocals you are hearing are just scratch vocals (the vocals you record just to play along with... you add the real vocals last) and the tracks are NOT mixed at all. These songs are all in a "rough cut" form right now... just mixed enough to be able to listen to it. All of these songs still need something... maybe a keyboard part here... a harmony vocal there... We're getting close though. Today was Day #9 and tomorrow is Day #10. A special guest is coming to the studio tomorrow that I'm really excited about. I anticipate recording being finished after day #12. So... only 3 more days! Okay... here is the sample. Please don't distribute this or link to it or anything... it's just for you who read this board. www.emergingminister.com/sampler.mp3

special guest? rich mullins? cause if you could pull that off - especially on one of your songs - it would be freakin' sweet!

Awesome... thanks for the preview Greg! I've been meaning to post here for awhile, but have been busy with class until this week... the songs sound wonderful, lots of layers already and not too Americana to be inaccessible. Thanks again for letting us sit in on your creative process via the boards... I've definitely enjoyed following the progress of the album (even if I haven't posted about it ) I can't wait to hear the full thing! Sean PS I'll post longer later, but thanks for your musical suggestions last month! I really dig the Innocence Mission record, and David Mead's pretty good as well... and I broke down and downloaded the Waterdeep album. You're right... amazing album. I didn't like the clips... I didn't care for a dry read of the lyrics... but man, the whole package is hard to beat. Thanks again!

Thanks for the kind words guys.
Meriam, I'll try to post more when things get closer to their final mixes... right now it's still too rough to really feel good about posting more than short clips. Plus, my producer asked me not to! He doesn't want un-mixed stuff floating around with his name on it, and understandably so.
Sam, I'll have to save the Rich Mullins duet for the great beyond. The guest was the great Dave Potts who came in to sing on 3 tracks. I know some of you aren't familiar with Dave's music... you should get his album "$12.99" and change that. If you like solid storytelling and acoustic folk music, you'll like Dave. He's become a pretty good friend and I was really excited when he offered to come in and sing... Dave drove 10 hours in one day just to sing harmony on 3 songs for a no-name like me. That should tell you something about his character... he's a great guy.
Sean, I'm really glad you're digging the recomendations. I agree totally on the Waterdeep record... "good good end" is an awesome song and there are some other great ones on there also. Have you heard "you were at the time for love" which is Don's first solo record? I'd suggest tracking that one down... it's pretty great.
Also, thanks for the kind words on the samples... I like "not too americana to be inaccessible". I hope that's true! This record is really going to be kind of a hodgepodge... I guess my first record was too. It leans more americana but there are at least 3 straight up rock and roll type songs too so I'm hoping people like the diversity.

Oh I like Dave Potts. I'm listening to Amanda Bramlett right now. Weird. I really enjoy his Days Like These CD. You guys should tour together. Rich would've been better though. (no offense to Dave) Don't you and Dave both have songs with Matthew McConaughey's name in them?
