So this week has been pretty crazy but so, so, so, so fun and chock full of music. A little recap.
Monday at noon I played on WDVX for the Blue Plate Special... they were kind enough to let me play almost a whole hour and broadcast that bad boy right out to everyone on the airwaves and the world wide interweb. I opened with a Bob Dylan song and then played about 10 originals... busted out an old song "Lines Drawn in the Sand" that I have never played live before... felt pretty cool to sing something so politically charged... not my normal deal but fun. I am probably going to be posting part of that show (they recorded it for me) in the MP3 vault soon.
Tuesday night I played at a bar in town called the Corner Lounge. I played in between a girl from Nashville and a band from Knoxville (Tori Sparks and Bellfield respectively). I played a 5 song set and as I started, I was thinking... this... is so not my scene. But surprisingly... I think they liked me. Beer in hand, girl on the arm, tattoos on the lower back, cigarette in mouth, you get the picture... I was thinking not my crowd, but it went well. I even pulled out the talking tom cruise blues on those hooligans and they ate it up like granny's apple butter. It was kind of surreal. I really want to play there again.
Although, today, I was changing the strings on my guitar and didn't know that a guitar could smell like smoke and beer. It can, and mine does. It's kind of nasty and I apologized to her for taking her to a place like that.
Today I welcomed a new music intern at church and spent the whole day getting to know him and talking ministry stuff... I think we're going to have a good summer working together. Then tonight, we welcomed a really great band in for a short concert at church... the band is called Ellery and you can hear more at www.ellerymusic.com which you should go do right now... they're great. After church, I took them down to WDVX where they played on Karen Reynold's great "Writers Block" show and then they came home with me to crash at my place... they're in bed and I should be too but I'm up talking to you guys.
Tomorrow morning bright and early I'm getting up and driving to Nashville. My friend Arthur Alligood is doing a record with Andy Osenga who produced my record and I'm going just to hang out for the day... should be a whole lot of fun and I'm really looking forward to it.
Friday I'll be back at work to finish up preparation for Sunday and then on Saturday... oh, sweet Saturday... rest at last.
So it's shaping up to be a long week... doing what I love. And you just can't complain about that.
