Hey everybody... if you're anywhere near Berea, KY, come on out to Ground Effects coffee tonight for the show... we'll go around 7:30 and I've got a really great opener coming with me... it will be a fun night.

How about right now...
Berea was awesome... this was the first venue I have been back to a second time and man... that makes a difference. There were people there who already knew me and not only that, they brought friends. Thanks Zach and Luke... I appreciate that more than I can really express.
I thought the show was okay from my end... I had a few technical issues with my new looping pedal, but that's not that big of a deal. I didn't have any brand new material to play but I did play a cover I had never done before... a really great song by Pierce Pettis called "Trying to stand in a fallen world".
After the show, Randy, the owner, said that they would like to have me up on a quarterly basis... it's such a short drive from home that I could probably swing that. It's 1 hour and 45 minutes exactly from my driveway to their front door.
One thought though... it's a coffeehouse and it's free to get in and people tip the musician. Problem is... there were only $3.00 in tips Friday night. I saw Randy put a $20 in out of the register and I appreciated that and I also sold $60 worth of CDs so it wasn't a wash but it makes me nervous... if I don't sell any CDs and Randy doesn't chip in, I just spent $20 in gas to play a show that paid $3.00... not worth it no matter how fun it is. Thing is... I think I can draw at least 20 people if not 30 or 40 next time I play just based on the crowds the two times I have played so far... I wonder about maybe asking a $3.00 cover or something...
Any of you Berea people have any thoughts on that? Have they ever charged a cover before?

I thought the technical difficulties were fine, you handled them really well. From acting on stage, I've learned one lesson, and that's that if you mess up, people will only dwell on it if you don't cover it up well, and like I said, you did fine, so it didn't hurt the show in the least.
But still, only $3.00 in tips? Ouch! I guess that's what happens when your audience is mainly broke college kids. I did, however, notice all those CDs you sold, congrats, but still, yeah, $3.00 ain't too great. I'm pretty sure they've never had a cover charge for any shows at Ground Effects before, I guess you could ask Randy, however. Other than that, I really can't think of anything else you could do. I'll think on it though... anything to get you back to Berea!
Oh, and man, I love/hate how you play these awesome cover songs (like "She Doesn't Exist Anymore"). I love it because you do a great job on the songs, but I hate it because I never find good versions of the songs afterward. I've been trying to locate that Pierce Pettis song to no avail. Looks like you have another suggestion for the MP3 vault.

well, apparently that cd isn't available there. out of print i guess. that's the trouble sometimes with indie artists their older stuff is hard to get.

Along those lines, here's a great website for finding those older Christian CDs that you used to love so much (like One Bad Pig)... www.crossingmusic.com/index.phpAlthough they don't have any Pierce Pettis CDs right now, you can sign up to have them email you when one comes in. You can also sell your older CDs as well, but like most places, they give you pennies for them...
