Last night I opened for Shawn McDonald at Johnson Bible College here in Knoxville. I totally didn't know what to expect going into this one... Shawn and I don't really sound much alike at all so I wasn't sure that his fans would like my stuff all that much.
It turned out to be a really fun show... I'm still not sure if his fans liked my stuff, but I had a blast playing. It was easily the biggest crowd I have played for so far... right at 500 people, so the nerves were going a little bit more than they usually do. Me and Marcus were both pretty edgy when we started (Marcus is the guitar-slingin sideman).
Ended up selling a good number of CDs which was nice and also the school paid me better than I was expecting so that's always nice. I am now very, very close to having the record completely paid off... I had to go into some debt to record and produce the album and I've really been looking forward to having that debt paid off... it's pretty much done, so that's awesome.
Tonight it's on to Nashville, then Sunday over to Gatlinburg. Rockin' the Volunteer State! (That sounds like the name of a Charlie Daniels Band tour or something).

This raises an interesting question... how many cities are allowed to use "Vegas" on the end. Example... i've heard people from Nashville refer to their hometown as "Nash Vegas" fairly often. That is also true here in Knoxville.. you'll hear "Knox Vegas" pretty often. I'm wondering if this is something that happens in other places? Do people in Indianapolis say "Indy Vegas" or do people in Lexington say "Lex Vegas"? I wonder. I don't wonder much, but I do a little.

Sure wouldn't work for me. . Lake Charles. . .hmmm. . .Lake Vegas? Lake Charles Vegas? They just don't sound right. . .only LA city I can think of right off the bat is perhaps "Leesville." However, we certainly don't hear "Leesvegas."
