Well, this feels very, very familiar. I'm in Cleveland, TN (not quite as big as the one in Ohio) at Cafe Aroma... I'm sitting in a window booth sipping on a really excellent cup of coffee. There are a few college students studying for finals in the room with me... they all are wearing headphones working on computers. Well, all except the couple at the table behind me who are arguing and I can hear everything they are saying. I'm trying not to listen but it's hard because they're not exactly using their inside voices. The girl is pretty upset about something.
Anyway, all of my gear is set up in a back room full of couches, televisions, and foosball. No one has gone back there since I've been here, but that's where I'm playing here in about an hour and a half. It's a cool place and the one thing that already has it way higher on my list than Bristol is the fact that they will let me eat dinner for free. So that's good I guess.
I'm prepared for a repeat of what happened in Bristol... playing for people who aren't listening and who don't care. But, tonight I'm going to try something a little different and see where it gets me. In Bristol, I got discouraged... I got kind of bummed and didn't really play a good show. I think it may have even been obvious that I wasn't enjoying myself. So, tonight, I'm going to be Bruce Springsteen... play my guts out and have fun doing it and close my eyes and pretend it's a packed room and they paid to see me... even if it's just a couple of 7 year old kids playing foozball, requesting Green Day, and making fun of the "old guy" on stage. Will I sell any CDs? Will I make any tips? Will anything good come of it? Stay tuned... I'll let you know later...
