is that that the Alligood album that Osenga's been talking about? I can't wait to hear it.
I've been listening to alot of Osenga's stuff...i just got 'the morning,' 'photographs,' and '...postcards.' Great albums, the lot. I've also 'rediscovered' Randall Goodgame's "the hymnal." Other than that, i've been brooding over my own music in an attempt to get up the nerve to finish my record...which is bad because when that happens i quit listening to anything else that would otherwise inspire me.
Oh yeah...since we're playing the karma game, i smite Adkins for listening to the Dixie Chicks. (perhaps a thread on most hated bands/artists and the reasons or merits of such hatred is in order?)

Well.. at the risk of being smitten for my taste in music, here's my latest cravings.
Copeland - In Motion (2 CD's- the second has 4 live acoustic recordings) Family Force 5 - "business up front, party in the back" I'm an addict. Goo Goo Dolls - Let Love In- only album I've ever owned of there's but I'm diggin it The Fray - a solid first album for these guys. (what's up with all the new piano led bands these days? It's different and I like it.) Plumb - chaotic resolve. Never listened to this chick rocker before but I really like this album The Myriad - You can't trust a ladder. A little too emo for me, but some good songs keep me listening.

Is it too late to weigh in on this one? I've had to think about it a bit... 1) Andrew Osenga - The Morning (What else can I say? It's AMAZING... stream it on his site and then buy it) 2) Ellery - Lying Awake (Bought this on Greg's rec... really good stuff, I think i've found my female-fronted piano band PS has anyone listened to their "Dividing the Plunder" stuff?) 3) Passion '06 - Everything Glorious (the exception to the rule for me about a lot of worship stuff... though the air's getting much clearer, methinks... oh well, smite me if you must) 3) Ross King - Soulspeak (only listened once, but good so far... thought i'd throw that on there to save me from above said smiting) 4) Johnny Cash - American V (does this stuff make anyone else seriously reflect on their life? Gosh, hearing what a dying man like Cash would have to say before he left just does something to me I can't explain... amazing stuff) 5) Sandra McCracken - The builder and the architect (just popped this back in my player after a long hiatus... pretty amazing collection of hymns and original songs... sometimes I forget why I like her so much...) PS Not to solicit, but is anyone interested in / know where to sell my copy of Wilco's Kicking Television? I bit the bullet to try them out awhile back & just couldn't get into it. PPS Been digging a lot of other square peg stuff lately, just too much to mention... Jill Phillips, Matt Perryman Jones, Eric Peters, etc.

The newest addition to my CD collection is Jonathan Rundman's "Protestant Rock Ethic" and it is AWESOME! It's a two CD set. . .and just. . .WOW. Like "Public Library," the second disc is definitely one of those "for driving in the car CDs."

hmm... forgot to mention this the other day... finally broke down also and bought death cab for cutie's "plans" after hearing it on the airplane (Song is great...) ... pleasantly surprised. I personally prefer some of the producitno values to what i've heard of their previous stuff (which, admittedly, isn't much). Some very thought-provoking songs.

Hello everyone. I know this will sound like I am tooting my own horn, but I'm really not. I just started a myspace which has been a long ordeal for me. Anyways, I have posted the first four songs from my new record there so if you want to check them out you can. If not then that is fine as well. Greg played piano, rhodes and sang on the album. So at least listen for Greg's sake. www.myspace.com/arthuralligoodmusic

Go listen to "not like us" right now. Seriously. It's an amazing song.
And when Arthur says I played piano... well... listen for the piano on "not like us" and when you hear it, be prepared to be in awe of my awesome talent, because they gave me one note to play and I flat out nailed it. No one else could have done it quite that way... I'm quite sure of it. Also, my tongue is in my cheek, in case you couldn't tell.
But don't let the awesomeness of my piano note take away from the truth... this song is incredible. It's as much sermon as song... go. listen. now.

Peter Barbee - Change, This Time - an old friend from New City, whose amazing talent keeps him in the ears of Nashville artists these days. Henryk Gorecki - Symphony No. 3 - Polish composer. Over the Rhine - Ohio, Drunkards Prayer - two albums that will make you shhh...... listen Andrew Osenga - Photographs - can't get enough of it Patty Griffin - Living With Ghosts - another beautiful voice with beautiful things to say Andrew Bird - Weather Systems - Quirky and vibey album with a violin virtuoso Nickel Creek - Why Should the Fire Die - I need a new cd sometime soon. McKay's is calling me...

Richard Swift has been my favorite for the last couple of months. Get his double album entitled "Richard Swift Collection Volume 1." The song "As I Go" really caught my attention first. I think he has a Myspace so you can listen to his tunes there. I highly recommend him.

I can't afford to buy new CDs, so I just go to the library and pick up whatever I see on the shelf. I can't keep up with all you cool music fans, I'm too mainstream. This past trip it was:
Goo Goo Dolls - Let Love In - I agree with darthminister, this is a great record.
The Wreckers - Stand Still, Look Pretty - this is the new group that Michelle Branch formed with another female musician. Other than the released single "Leave the Pieces" (one of the few songs they didn't write themselves), it's not a good album.
David Gray - Life in Slow Motion - I really like the song "The One I Love" but other than that, all the songs sound the same.
Mp3s - Today I've listened to Deliverance, Good Charlotte, and Bruce Springsteen.
Back to the library for me!

Well, I don't know exactly how it happened, but September was "please-don't-break-my-budget-with-all-the-new-good-records" month for me... so my box o' CDs has changed out.
Currently spinning:
1) Bebo Norman - Between the Dreaming and the Coming True - I've been a huge bebo fan since Ten Thousand Days (still an amazing record), and I really have enjoyed his new direction (esp. w/ Try... amazing record. If you haven't heard it, sample it, then buy it. Yesterday. Okay...). That said, the new album sounds REAL different... if you're heard the radio singles (Into the Day or I Will Lift my Eyes), they are fairly representative of the record's sound. Very big and open... lots of strings and guitar (though not tacky or dated [or will be dated in 5 years])... umm, because he produced it himself, I don't feel there's as much variety between the songs (though they're all good)... probably not my favorite Bebo album right now (after only two listens) but definitely worth checking out.
2) Brandon Heath - Don't Get Comfortable - I'm really impressed by this one. He co-wrote with Bebo on a few songs on Try (Soldier and Try), so I knew I liked his songwriting. Has a pop flair, but in a fun acoustic-guitar-and-handclaps sort of way. He's good with a lyric too... not like Greg or Andy P or other more singer-songwriter folks (if that's even a seperate category from OTHER singers, but you know what i mean), but probably some of the best new stuff out of a major label recently.
3) Leeland - Sound of Melodies - I think I've mentioned this one before... another label buzz band... I really like their stuff. Very piano-driven, on some days reminds me of Keane (in a NON-derivative way), and worshipful lyrics. Some near misses on the CD, but good stuff (esp. for the $6.99 I paid for it).
4) Jars of Clay - Good Monsters - whoo. Anything Jars does is good, and this is no exception. I think I've mentioned this one before, so... great direction, great songs. I'm really starting to love "Oh my God" and "Light Gives Heat".
5) Patty Griffin - Living with Ghosts - umm... wow? Thanks for the rec greg and co.... this stuff is pretty amazing... right now, really digging "time will do the talking", "moses" and "let him fly". I really love 1000 kisses too, but only heard it once (man, "long way home" just tears my heart out)
Okay, I've written too much, so I'll run. Just excited about new music (and still more to come... =D)
PS I'm going to college station this weekend to see Derek Webb & Sandra McCracken =D I'm gonna pick up her new album there... it's really had to grow on me, mainly b/c of the production (do you guys ever love an artist but not click with the producer? I've got two stories w/ this... her & Eric Peters), but the songs are amazing. Check it out on her myspace or you can stream it on Rhapsody and download it on iTunes. ok i'm done

Which record of Sandra's do you not like the production on? I would totally agree about her last one that the production was awful... I haven't heard her new one yet but I know the same guy produced it... peter Collins, right? what's weird is, he's doing great work before. He produced the Indigo Girls "Rites of Passage" record which is just fantastic start to finish. Weird.
I have generally really liked Eric Peter's records.
There are a lot of artists I've really liked that I thought put out records that weren't very well produced. Usually, it seems like overproduction is what annoys me. Some examples of this in my mind at least would be "Big Horizon" by David Wilcox, "Arkadelphia" by Randall Goodgame, and (gulp) "Clear to Venus" by Andrew Peterson. All good records with good songs, but compared to their other work, I didn't care for the production choices on parts of these records. Especially on "Arkadelphia"... I had heard the original demos and I just couldn't stand what the producer did to those...
I'll second the new Jars record being incredible... it's amazing. You should all go get it.
