Hey guys...
So I noticed it had been 3 months since I updated the MP3 vault. Well, to make up for it, there are 5 tasty nuggets over there now for you to freely download and enjoy.
Below I've pasted what I wrote on that page. Enjoy! Let me know what you think!
For this month's MP3 Vault, I went over to the church one night really late and just recorded some demos through the house sound system. The mix isn't very good... the reverb is a little out of control... the guitar isn't loud enough... but hey, what do you want for free? I've always enjoyed playing music in empty churches... I used to sneak into my home church growing up sometimes and play the piano late at night. I hadn't done that in a long time (and I don't have to sneak anymore since I have keys) but it felt pretty good to play these songs. The recording quality is junk, but I still hope you enjoy them.
1. The Ballad of Beverly Brown - A song that more than likely will end up getting me in trouble. This song asks the question "What if the rapture already happened and so few people went to heaven, nobody noticed? What if we're all left behind?" Of course, it isn't really asking that question... I suppose it's a bit tongue in cheek. I suppose if you know me, you'll get the humor and if you're offended, don't be. I didn't mean it that way. Well, maybe sort of.
2. Back it Up - Not to be confused with the significantly more well known song "Back that Thang Up", this song is totally different. This song is basically just a challenge to myself to let the words of my mouth reflect what is actually in my heart. I just wrote it yesterday (september 10th, 2006 if you're reading this later) so I'm not sure if it's any good or not. I would also like to dedicate this song to Dr. Tobias Funke and if you know who that is, the first verse should make you smile.
3. Come Lord Jesus (Not Another Worship Song) - I've always liked playing this song with just me and the piano. I wrote it on guitar but it feels better to me on piano.
4. One Finger Blues - So... I saw this guy at open mic night a few months ago and all his songs were played with one finger chords (chords you can make with only one finger). Now, I'm not a very good guitar player and almost everything I play is in G position (capoed up for other keys), but I still felt the need to poke a little fun at mister one finger. I wrote this one Thursday in literally, about 5 minutes (and that was 4 minutes longer than I should have spent on it). I'll never play this live, but hey, it was amusing to me... thought this would be a fun place to share it.
5. Pray Where You Are - It occurred to me that I haven't given you guys a free track from The Bluegrass Service CD yet... so, here is my cover of this great old song by the Lost Dogs. Andy Wood played mandolin and all the good acoustic guitar parts, Marcus Fife played drums, Mike Ritter played banjo, Bill Wolf sang harmonies, and I played acoustic guitar and electric bass.
